Importers are at risk of being subject to enforcement actions by CBP if they do not comply with the reasonable care standard when importing goods into the U.S. Customs brokers are responsible to “reasonably supervise and control” the importations they process. Top areas of CBP enforcement are HTSUS classification, valuation, country of origin marking, AD/CVD, forced labor, and intellectual property rights. A lack of “reasonable care” on the part of an importer can lead to CBP issuing penalties under 19 U.S.C. 1592. In this seminar, attendees will be well prepared to comply with CBP’s reasonable care standard and will learn:

  • What the importers burden of “reasonable care” with U.S. Customs really means
  • What the importer’s responsibilities really are
  • How importers can best manage their transactions
  • Due diligence / CBP rulings / documentation / procedures
  • How to monitor and audit your shipments
  • How to create your very own customs compliance program
  • What the role of a broker vs. the role of the importer really is
